CLUEDO - VIDEO CONFERENCING PROJECT BRIEF

(idea provided by Steve Roberts Torfaen ICT and Lisa Bodenham Torfaen ICT Advisory Teacher, Torfaen)

NB THIS IS A MULTI POINT CONFERENCE WITH 5 SCHOOLS/CLASSES.  OBJECTIVES - TO IMPROVE CONFIDENCE AND SKILLS IN USING VC EQUIPMENT AND TO SUPPORT AND PROMOTE THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS.

Preparation prior to VC

  1. One teacher from one school needs to be the host/facilitator school for this conference.
  2. The host school will ensure everyone has read the instructions for playing cluedo from the Torfaen pbwiki.
  3. The host school will randomly split up the cluedo cards and email them to the respective schools/classes.  One set of cards - the murder cards will be kept back and only the host teacher will know the murderer, room and weapon!!!
  4. The host school will also email the checklist for each school to use to mark off their clues as they discover them.
  5. The host school will need to do one of the following to receive the answers from each of the schools:-   a) set up a collaborative GOOGLEDOC for each of the schools/classes to enter their answer once they think they know who committed the murder with what weapon and in which room!                                                                                                                                                 b) have some form of instant messenger open e.g. Skype, Google Chat, Moodle Chat - so that schools can submit their final answer to the host teacher.

Resources

  1. Internet access
  2. Cluedo cards
  3. Detective Checklist
  4. Googledoc Template

Video Conference Agenda – Suggested Activities

  1. Initial introductions between the classes/schools.
  2. The host school will dial each class and ensure they understand how they will play the game.
  3. At a given time the game will begin - this will be decided by the host teacher.
  4. Each class/school will dial another class/school and pose a suggestion of the murderer, weapon and room.  If the class/school hold 1 of the cards named they must reveal it - but if they hold more than 1 of the cards named they still only need to reveal 1 - which they can choose.  If they don't hold any of the cards named then they must not claim to be holding one - if they do this they will be disqualified.
  5. If a clue is provided the questioning class/school can tick it off their checklist.
  6. Each of the schools will continue this process dialing each other until they think they know who committed the murder, with what weapon and in which room.
  7. Once a class/school is sure they can enter their decision in the shared GOOGLEDOC which will be monitored by the host teacher.
  8. Even when a class/school has entered their decision they must still continue to participate in the game - answering honestly any suggestions asked by other schools.
  9. When the last class/school has entered their decision in the googledoc will the host teacher reveal the actual answers and therefore announce the winning class/school.
  10. The schools may wish to provide an award of some description to the winning class/school which can be decided by the competing classes/schools.
  11. Closing comments and thank you.
