SPACE – CREATE A ROCKET VIDEO CONFERENCING PROJECT BRIEF
(idea provided by Louise Sulway – Maendy Primary School, Torfaen)
This topic will allow children to investigate space travel. Possible link activities could include:-
- Investigation into planets
- Eco link – how to keep our planet clean and unpolluted
- Maths – distance and direction – from planet to planet and from world to a set destination
- Art – 3D model of the solar system
Preparation prior to VC
1. Each class/group will create their own space rockets with the purpose to try and fly the furthest.
2. Photograph/video the process for use during the video conference and display purposes.

- Internet access
- Various materials to create a space rocket.
- Digital camera/camcorder
Video Conference Agenda – Suggested Activities
- Initial introductions between the classes/schools.
- Each class/group will fly their space rockets under controlled conditions.
- The distance travelled will be measured.
- Each class/group will compare the results and look at the materials the rockets are made from and the photographic/video evidence to try to ascertain why some rockets flew further than others.
- Closing comments and thank you.

- Following the video conference the groups/classes could try to improve their rockets and then repeat the video conference – flying the rockets.
