DEBATE - VIDEO CONFERENCING PROJECT BRIEF

(idea provided by Louise Sulway – Maendy Primary School, Torfaen)

Preparation prior to VC

1.        Each class/group will decide upon an issue for debate linked to their theme/topic

2.       Each class/group will subdivide into for and against and prepare information to support their point of view.  This can be in a format of their choice.

Resources

  1. Internet access
  2. Various software packages
  3. Various materials to aid presentation of their point of view.

Video Conference Agenda – Suggested Activities

  1. Initial introductions between the classes/schools.
  2. Each class/group will present their debate to the partner class
  3. The partner class will then vote based on the presentation which they think was the stronger argument and therefore who they believe – the for or against teams.
  4. Repeat the process until all groups/classes have presented their debates and voting has taken place.
  5. Discussion could also take place – why some arguments were better than others – identifying the effective elements of those arguments.
  6. Closing comments and thank you.

Resources

  1. Debating materials
  2. Voting cards
  3. Digital cameras/camcorders (optional)

EXTN:-

Further debates could take place with each group reflecting on their prior performance and aiming to improve according to the constructive criticism received.
