FRED’S TEETH VIDEO CONFERENCING PROJECT BRIEF

(idea provided  by Lynsey Russell -  Woodlands Community Primary School, Torfaen)

 

NB THIS IS A MINIMUM TWO SESSION VIDEO CONFERENCE

 

Video Conference 1

 

Preparation prior to VC

 

  1. Each class/group study the human body with a focus on teeth.
  2. Each class/group view Fred’s problem using the accompanying powerpoint FRED’S TEETH.
  3. Each group discusses the problem and thoughtshowers how they will tackle the problem.
  4. The teachers will review each group’s approach and ideas and partner up a group from each class to discuss further during the first video conference.

Video Conference Agenda – Suggested Activities

 

  1. Initial introductions between the classes/schools.
  2. Each class reviews FRED'S TEETH problem using the accompanying powerpoint.
  3. In the paired groups the children discuss the problem further using a Q and A structure before undertaking the investigation.
  4. Closing comments and thank you.

  2. Questions created by paired groups to clarify anything about the investigation planned.

 

Ongoing Mini Video Conferences (possibly using pvx and webcams)

 

  1. As the groups carry out the investigation regular mini video conferences could take place for the groups to collaborate and review the investigation as it progresses.
  2. This will also ensure that the groups who are paired carry out the investigation in the same way to ensure consistency of results.

 

Video Conference 2

 

Preparation prior to VC

 

  1. Collation of results and explanation of results
  2. Any photographic/video evidence taken during the investigation.

 

 

 

Video Conference Agenda – Suggested Activities

 

  1. Greetings between each class
  2. Each group presents the results from their investigation and compares their results to the paired group in the partner class.
  3. Q and A session can take place with the other groups asking relevant scientific questions e.g. how can you ensure accuracy of your results.
  4. Closing comments and thank you.
