MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS FROM OTHER CULTURES – CREATE A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT VIDEO CONFERENCING PROJECT RIEF
(idea provided by Linda Livesey-Primary School, Torfaen)

This topic will allow children to investigate other cultures through music.  

Preparation prior to VC

1. International week. This could be a whole school event including food, music, dance.
2. Each class/group will create their own musical instruments  with the purpose of creating  a rhythm from that culture.
3. Photograph/ video the week for use during the conference.

Resources

1. Internet access
2. Various materials to create an instrument.
3. Digital camera/camcorder

Video Conference Agenda – Suggested Activities

1. Initial introductions between the classes/schools.
2. Each class/group will introduce their country and instrument and show pictures, and films etc from their international week.
3. Each class in turn will then have 20 minutes to create a rhythm with their instruments.
4. Each class/group will perform their rhythms
5. Closing comments and thank you.
