LOCAL LANDMARKS - VIDEO CONFERENCING PROJECT BRIEF

(idea provided by Louise Sulway – Maendy Primary School, Torfaen)

NB. THIS IS A TWO SESSION VIDEO CONFERENCE.

Video Conference 1

Preparation prior to VC

1.        Each class/group will investigate a selected period in history e.g. Romans and the development of the Roman army through Wales

2.       Each class/group will focus on a local landmark from the chosen period of history and prepare a mystery quest i.e. a set of clues which the partner class can use to identify the landmark.

3.       The clues can be created and presented in a format of their choice.

  3. Clues
  4. Digital camera/camcorder

Video Conference Agenda – Suggested Activities

  1. Initial introductions between the classes/schools.
  2. Each class/group will present their clues for their chosen landmark.
  3. The partner class/group will have a set amount of time to research and identify the landmark e.g. 30 mins
  4. The host class/group will confirm if the partner school has correctly identified the landmark.
  5. Closing comments and thank you.

Video Conference 2

Preparation prior to VC

  1. Following the mystery quest vc each class/group will further investigate the partner school’s chosen landmark(s)
  2. The following activities could be undertaken E.g.

a)      mapping skills – location of the landmark

b)      directions – how to get to the landmark from their school

c)      measurements – how far it is to the landmark from their school

  1. Following the research undertaken a quiz could be created about the landmark. E.g. in the style of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’.

  4. Relevant and suitable software to create quiz.

Video Conference – Suggested activities

  1. Initial introductions between the classes/schools.
  2. Each class/group will present their quiz for the other class/group to solve.
