TRANSITION IN PE PROJECT BRIEF

(idea provided by Medi James - Pontnewydd Primary School, Torfaen)

Brief

Transition between primary and secondary school is always scary.  This video conferencing project will give primary school children an opportunity to be enthused by what is ahead of them and for comprehensive school pupils to take pride in and display what they have learnt so far in their new school.

The pupils from both age groups will perform in front of each other and share their experiences.

Prior preparation

  • Each school prepares a physical activity to demonstrate to each other. The primary school will demonstrate an area of PE they have enjoyed. The comprehensive school could use this as an opportunity to demonstrate an area of PE that pupils cannot experience in year 6.  E.g. the use of a fitness suite.
  • Collect resources relevant to your activity.

Video conference Agenda - Suggested activities

  • Initial introductions between the classes/schools.
  • Primary school children demonstrate their activity.
  • Comprehensive school children demonstrate their activity.
  • Each school could teach a series of simple exercises to each other.
  • Year 7 pupils share their experiences of their first year in comprehensive with year 6 pupils.
  • Year 6 pupils given the opportunity to question the pupils and teachers from the comprehensive school.
  • Closing comments and thank you.
